I agree with you regarding many quotes. I may not love them all either- I enjoy reading and giving them to people- because like you stated, they make you think- expand your thinking on a situation, A quote may give me a fresh perspective.

'To be happy pondering' is sounds to me like it might be one of many esoteric alchemical meanings behind some all too common household word in some (still unknown by me) ancient sacred language of co-creative universal codes...
