From a most pragmatic point of view, wallowing in misery simply doesn't work! Unless the objective is, "Get nothing done and have a bad time doing it," there's no goal whose best path includes wallowing. It's like "pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and get to work rebuilding the country" from Obama's inauguration speech.
