I read this quote in the context of an article on creation spirituality and the need for us to restore/reaffirm our devotion for the earth. In the past, we have assumed the role as people who have dominion over her. We are the earth's caretakers; entrusted by the Creator to uphold her dignity...loving her enough to save her.
