What Satia loves about this:
I may actually be incorrect about the source of this profound question but I love its message and felt a need for the reminder to let go of being right and allow peace to be present in my heart, my life, and in my perspective.

Oh dear!  This quote has saved my marriage many times! lolol!  I tend to view it in the context of petty arguments.  Do I NEED to prove that I am right at the expense of my partner?  The answer is usually "no", I would prefer peace. If it were...

I think that this awareness would save many relationships, not only marriages.

Dear Satia, What may be truth for one person is not necessarily the truth for all.  It is a matter of perception.  But I do think that there is a universal truth, that can be felt in the heart of every human being, and therefore will give people peace in knowing...

I am laughing with you... Is it not funny what our mind sees when we want to.  Right and truth are two different subjects, but tied to the same illusions.  Namaste Vickie

I am giggling (not at you) because the original quote uses the word "right" and somehow most of the comments have been focused on truth.  I even reread my own initial comment and I didn't use the truth even one time but nearly every comment has included...

I read somewhere that letting someone be wrong when its not important was one of the tests of adulthood.

Do you think that this is because that as we get older our own perception of right/wrong, truth/untruth changes?  Taoism discusses the idea of letting things be as they are.  It sounds so easy.  It can be so challenging--but so much more peaceful, neh?

I think its because the smarmy wish to be right all the time and make sure the person in error knows it is one of the hallmarks of immaturity.

Satia, I want always to be truthful. To speak and live truth. I know that I will be at peace if truth is my word.

My truth has changed over time as has my concept of what is right or wrong.  When I see someone as "wrong" I often find that if I just chooe to have peace with them rather than insist on my rightness we are both happier.  Inevitably, from this comes so...

Likewise: telling the truth for me, is being at peace with all. But if the truth is going to hurt someone, rather than causing unecessary pain, may be it is best in those occasions to keep silent.

Living truth is harder than speaking it, sometimes.  I know that I can say what I think but living up to that is so much harder.  Ironically, living it is also far more eloquent.

...neither, I would rather be consistent. That way my friends, my enemies, my family, my loved ones... all will know what to expect from me. That way, while they might not have peace and I might be wrong, knowing what to expect from me should give them at least some ...
