No one likes sitting on a hot stove. The heat springs us into action. We could not experience life without all its flavor, like a chord with a note missing.

That's a good point, and accurate. And something like oncoming death especially seems to kick us into high gear and set us off to finish things.

I believe that pain can teach us things and make us stronger in ways that nothing else can. Also to have pain is a way of helping us appreciate moments of peace. Pain also helps us to have empathy for others.
