Wisdomology Frequently Asked Questions
What is Wisdomology about?
It's a place for insightful people to come together and share their wisdom. A place to open to your inner wisdom by
1) learning more about yourself
2) connecting with other people
3) exploring the meaning of wisdom
How do I get "Inspirations"?
You get an "inspiration" every time someone marks something you've submitted "inspiring". The best ways to inspire people are
1) Submit great stuff!
2) Ask others questions - it helps you connect with them.
3) Answer other people's questions. If your answers are helpful, they're likely to give you a point.
4) Mark other people inspiring! It helps them find you & your insights.
5) Put in your photo, some tags that describe you, and a personal statement. Tags help people find you, your photo attracts people to you, and your statement helps people understand you.
6) Send links to friends and connect with them online.
What/who are "Pro's"?
Wisdomology Pros are professionals who offer products or services intended to help people grow.
It's a way for professions in this field to highlight their business offerings. Wisdomology Pros can be authors, coaches, psychologists, healers, speakers, psychics, or any other type of professional who can benefit from a strong targeted Web 2.0 presence.
How do I become a pro?
1) If you're already a member, log in.
2) Click on "Pros" in the top navigation bar.
3) Click on the link at the top of the page marked "Is Wisdom your Business?"
4) Fill out the subscription information form. Your special "Pro" info is:
-- Title (shorter is better, as it will be underneath your thumbnail picture)
-- Expertise (Sell it! We want to know how you can help us!)
-- Website (everything after the http://)
-- Contact info
You can edit these at any time, right on your profile.
How do I make my own meditation?
1) Click "Share Insights" from the top navigation bar
2) Select "Meditation"
3) Give your meditation a title, select some music (optional), and slide the slider to select the time it will stay on each screen. You can always come back and adjust this later to get just the right flow.
4) Then click "Edit slides".
At the top is a slide sorter. If you click one of the slides at the top, you'll be able to edit that slide.
At the right is the preview pane, where you can see a mini version of what the slide will look like. You can also add and delete slides here.
At the left is the edit pane, where you can change the text and the background of the slide you have selected in the slide sorter.
5) When you're done, click "Preview" to see your work, then "Publish" when you're done.
How did some people get their own photos as backgrounds on their insights?
That's one of the features of premium membership. See if it's right for you here.
How do I edit one of my insights?
To edit a Quote, Journal Entry, etc.:
1) Bring up the entry - you can find it in your wisdom section on your profile.
2) Make sure you have FLASH ON.
3) Click the gray "Edit" button.
4) After you're done editing, make sure you click "Preview".
Can I edit my questions, answers or discussions?
Not right now - we haven't gotten to it yet. How important to you is that? Please tell us! We were thinking it would be cool to be able to edit your posts for 2 minutes, in case you see a typo or something right after you hit the button?
We're thinking it's not a good idea to be changing discussion entries much after that, because other people can respond to you, and then if you change it, well, it just gets weird.
Why can't I reply in a discussion or Question & Answer?
We have limited the discussions and the Q&A to three "levels" deep - three levels of indentation. After that, it's challenging to keep it formatted nicely. To add your comments, click the "reply" link on the next comment up in the hierarchy.
How do I change my credit card info?
For Pro memberships, click here to change any part of your credit card info (number, expiration date, name on card, etc.). What it really does is cancel your membership and start a new one with the new card, but all your insights will be saved..
Alternatively, you can click Profile - Edit account info - Payment info - Change billing/card info.
How do I edit my email preferences?
1) To change your preferences about which alerts to receive or not, click here, then check or uncheck the boxes at the bottom of the page. You can also get to this page by clicking Profile - Edit account info.
2) To change your preferences about the weekly newsletter, open one of the email newsletters and click "Manage your subscription" at the bottom. Sorry we haven't integrated this with our site better. It's on our list!
What are those tiny icons on each wisdom page?
These things? -->
They're links to "bookmarking" services. The services are called Digg, StumbleUpon, Yahoo!, Del.icio.us, and Reddit. They're ways for you to bookmark favorites and have them stay online.
They're useful to you because you can access your favorites from anywhere (not just the favorites on your browser). And some of them have a feature called "social browsing", where you can share your bookmarks with other people, and online friends. That way we can all find great sites that people like us enjoy.
We encourage you to use them, or any other social bookmarks, because they get the word out about Wisdomology and strengthen our community.
What technology do I need to run Wisdomology.com?
We've designed the site to take advantage of some of the latest technologies:
Flash 9.x (will auto-download in most cases)
Broadband internet access (DSL, cable modem, or LAN). The site may run on slower connections, but it won't be as much fun. You can always turn Flash off to speed things up.
We've tested the following browsers, and they work fine:
Internet Explorer 6.x or above
Firefox 2.x
What are the points for?
The points are really just a means to thank each other for our insights, and a way to connect to other people who appreciate each other's wisdom. They also help highlight insights which the community has found particularly helpful. They are meant to encourage connection rather than competition. Please don't view them as any indication of your personal wisdom or worth! We know for a fact that you have infinite inner wisdom. ;)
How do I cancel my membership?
If you are a Pro:
1) Log in.
2) Click here to cancel your membership. Alternatively, click Profile - Edit account info - Payment - Cancel subscription.
If you are not a paying member, don't worry about it! There's no real need to cancel anything - your profile and your insights can continue to inspire people. Should you want us to remove your profile for any reason, contact us.
